How will news that Ormskirk could soon have three new wine bars be greeted in the town?
QLocal's Roger Blaxall's been tipped off about one at the former Home Bargains on Moor St., and spoke to a lady who's opening 'JoJo's bar and grill' at the former Source opposite Wetherspoons in the New Year.
This from a reader on one of the three: 'Not sure if you are on to the story but the former Home Bargains is going to be a new bar\restaurant by Loungers Ltd.
Another Wetherspoons type bar. Planning application is on the West Lancs. council website.
Apparently it will be approved.'
(QLocal understands there have been four objections to date which means councillors on the planning committee will have the last word.)
And it looks like a third one's opening at the old Post Office - I think we can guess what it'll be called, can't we? - student accommodation (surprise, surprise) is planned above the Home Bargain and Post Office developments, Blaxall believes.
And whether the Post Office plans and other two get the stamp of approval is now up to the borough council which is constantly pushing Ormskirk's night time economy as a factor in the town's economic success.
But try telling that to some of the traditional day time traders as they struggle to survive in the face of mounting competition from online trading and rival shopping centres like the thriving Ringtail Retail Park in Burscough and of course the bigger more professional shopping destinations in Liverpool, Manchester, along with Cheshire Oaks and the Trafford Centre...
