Has Anyone Any Memories/Recollections?

I have fond memories of Minster Lodge during the 1970's. My mother, Debbie Moore ('Auntie Debbie'), was a housekeeper there (she cooked, cleaned, washed and ironed) but was more of an 'auntie' to the children who lived there. They adored her and saw her very much as a mother figure; a kind of 'Mrs Chipps'.

One Christmas a boy was invited to our house and shared my bedroom. I often went up to the Lodge and loved playing football in the lage back garden there. One teenager was on Preston North End's books. I also benefited from the large collection of children's books they had there.

Most of the children were from Liverpool and I remember becoming friends with one of the very few, if only, black pupils to attend Wigan Road Secondary school at that time. Unfortunately he was the subject of inevitable racism.

I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who remembers my mother.
