Passengers are reminded that strike action will be taking place on Arriva buses, Merseyrail and Northern rail services.

    How you can help

Stick to public transport wherever possible to reduce congestion on key routes in and out of the city centre

Consider if your journey is essential: Consider making alternative arrangements. If you work, speak to your employer about whether there is any flexibility in working times, the possibility of working from home.

Travelling by car: Stick to public transport where possible but if you have to use the car, try and travel outside peak times and consider car sharing.

Avoid travelling at peak times where possible: If you work, speak to your employer about whether there is any flexibility in working times or times you could avoid travelling altogether. Please note there will be a break in Merseyrail services between around 11:00 and 14:00.

Leave more time for your journey: Services will be busier due to higher demand so you may need to allow more time for your journey

Consider your options: Different ways of travelling may suit your needs depending on where you need to go and at what time. You can use the Merseytravel journey planner.

    Bus services

Arriva services in Merseyside will not be running with the exception of the 713 and the existing park and ride services in Southport.

Normal ticket acceptance on the Quality Bus Network applies on this day. Details about the Quality Bus Network can be found here.

Stagecoach, and all other, bus services are due to run as planned.

Arriva bus tickets will not be accepted on Merseyrail or Northern rail services due to the reduced rail capacity on this day.

    Rail services

    Merseyrail services

Merseyrail will be running a reduced service with trains running every 30 mins, with the exception of the New Brighton to Liverpool services which will be every hour, from around 07:00 to 19:00, with a break between approximately 11:00 to 14:00. All services will be six car trains.

If you use the Wrexham to Bidston line please note that there will be no rail connections at Bidston and no bus service from Upton station.

It is possible that timetables will change during strike action so please check timetables before you travel.

    Southport - Liverpool Central
Not stopping at: Freshfield, Hall Road, Bootle Oriel Road, Bank Hall or Sandhills

    Maghull - Liverpool Central
    Not stopping at: Sandhills

    Kirkby - Liverpool South Parkway
Not stopping at: Rice Lane, Kirkdale, Sandhills, Brunswick, Aigburth or Cressington

    Hooton - Liverpool James Street
Not calling at: Eastham Rake or Bromborough Rake

West Kirby - Liverpool James Street
Not calling at: Manor Road, Bidston, Birkenhead Park or Conway Park

New Brighton - Liverpool James Street
    Calling at all stops

Train services will not be in operation on the following routes:
    Chester to Hooton
    Ellesmere Port to Hooton
    Ormskirk to Maghull
Hunts Cross to Liverpool South Parkway

Please note: Rail replacement buses will not be provided.

    Mainline rail services

Northern will operate a reduced timetable service between 07:00 and 19:00.

Other train operating companies such as TransPennine Express, East Midlands Trains and London Midland will continue to operate their existing train services between Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street mainline station.

    Cyclists

Any cyclists that use the train are asked to consider leaving their bike and home or at stations as rail services will be a lot busier. Cycle hire facilities are available at some stations and within the city centre to support passengers that require bicycles for their onward journey.

ADVICE: Check Merseyrail and Northern information before you travel. Consider your options, plan ahead and adapt your plans, take into account longer journey times. Don’t aim for the last scheduled train, get there early. Most final scheduled services will begin their journeys before 19:00.

    Mersey Ferries

The Mersey Ferries may be a good alternative if you're travelling cross river on Wednesday 8th November, services will be running as usual.

Morning commuter services from Seacombe to Liverpool Pier Head begin at 07:20 and run at about 20 minute intervals until 09:40.

Evening services from Liverpool Pier Head to Seacombe begin at 17:00 and also run at about 20 minute intervals until 18:40.

There is free parking at Seacombe for 370 cars. Cross river bus and rail tickets will not be accepted on the ferry.

A full timetable of all cross river journeys is available at Mersey Ferries.

Current works to replace two of the old ‘four bridges’ – the 'A' and 'C' bridges – along the A554 Tower Road in Wirral means there is no currently no through-route along this road. However Seacombe Ferry Terminal can still be accessed by following the well-marked diversion routes.

ADVICE: Plan your journey and check before you travel. Be prepared to allow longer for your journey due to the Wirral Dock bridge closures.

If you don't like your job or pay get another one, if you cant get another job you should be grateful for the one you have got, many people cant get work. Anyone striking should be sacked. no wonder the country is on its knees.

The rail strike is more about Comrade Len McLuskey trying to show us all that he is the one really running the Country.

For one thing McCluskey has nothing whatsoever to do with the RMT Union, and as already pointed out the Strike is over Safety and nothing else.
I suppose the Rail workers could buy an old van and do odd jobs instead of losing money trying to shake some sense into the Foreigners running our Railways thanks to the Tories and their supporters.

    Driverless cars are here.
Planes without pilots will be here soon.
Trains in London without drivers are being trialed.

Well that cuts the jobs down even further then doesn't it, even more people to buy vans and set up odd jobs and deliveries.
You don't say whether you travel by train and what you expect from your journey. Do you expect to be sat on your own at night with every scum bag and his/her dog getting on to cause whatever trouble they like or would you be happier with a driver and a guard to be able to actually do something.
I don't know what you do or did for a living but I suppose your job could be done without you if you want to go down that road.
It's a very violent world we live in now you only have to look on here where people can't understand what is being posted and want to fight anyone they lose the argument to.

It makes no difference what I do for a living. Just get real ,life
hasn't changed a great deal in the last forty years apart from getting
considerably better. Today its called cost efficient back in 70's most industries were grossly over staffed. As for what I said previous doesn't matter what you I
    write . Its coming.

Wouldn't be enough work to go around if everyone you think should be out of work, because they are losing money to keep crew on trains, took the route you have taken.

If you worked for someone instead of yourself and this someone never serviced or maintained your van but expected you to carry on without question you would then would you? Or would you be prepared to lose money by going on strike to get this someone to actually run the job SAFELY?

There are too many EXPERTS on here who open their trap without first thinking through the advice they are about to post.

Perhaps we need to accept that people shouldn't have to work for a living then.

Look at reality, like or dislike . Whatever you do or buy you look for the best deal
matters not where it comes from. You work for your money ,if someone put a bus
from Crossens to town for £1.20 guess which people would use.
Ryanair just had rough time because somebody misjudge situation, their still
    selling tickets as always.
Smell the coffee, please take on board that I don't like all changes but jump on
    board .
One thing does eat at me is we never had snowboards and my lady said
no way.[ or words to that effect} x

If they are striking about safety then fair enough BUT ARE THEY ?. From Carr lane to town on a bus its about £2.50 ( so people tell me ) that means if more than 2 of you are travelling its far easier, quicker and cheaper to get a taxi. I don't think for one second that the trains and busses are poorly maintained enough to the point of unsafe, I stand by my first comment. My friend gave up his job lately as a bus driver to drive for a distribution company because its a crap job dealing with abusive passengers so I have a little sympathy for bus drivers.
