The funeral of the club’s record appearance holder Jimmy Armfield, which takes place on Thursday, is to be broadcast live on BBC Radio Lancashire and over the PA system at Bloomfield Road.

The Armfield Stand will be open from 11am for supporters to come in and pay their respects, with the cortege to pass through the stadium at 12pm. The club kindly asks that supporters initially sit in the front rows of the stand so that the Armfield lettering remains clearly visible.

Once the cortege passes through, the Armfield family kindly asks that supporters remain together in the ground to listen to the service and respect the privacy of those attending at St Peter’s Church.

Complimentary tea and coffee will be available in the stadium, with volunteers on behalf of Trinity Hospice, where Jimmy was President and cared for in his final days, accepting donations.

BBC Radio Lancashire’s live coverage of the funeral gets underway from 11.45am and concludes following the 12.30pm service.
