Two more car park levels at Preston Bus Station will reopen on Tuesday 18 April following renovation work.

Lancashire County Council has announced that levels six and seven in the car park will reopen, with level three closing for repairs and redevelopment.

As part of this ongoing redevelopment, the car park ramps at the Guild Hall end of the bus station will also close for renovation from 18 April.

The ramps at the Holiday Inn end of the bus station reopened recently, following renovation work. The two highest car park levels reopened recently following a comprehensive update which included wider spaces, new lighting, car park surfaces, payment machines and security cameras. The work has also included concrete repairs and other related improvements.

The car park levels at Preston Bus Station are getting a new look, as part of the major redevelopment of the site.

Preston Bus Station is owned by Lancashire County Council.

Andrew Barrow, the county council's project manager, said: "We’re pleased that we'll have another two levels open again for people to use. This work is making the car park levels more welcoming and will encourage more people to use them.

"We ask people to bear with us while this essential work is carried out. It is a major challenge to keep the building open during this work, and we're doing everything we can to keep the disruption to a minimum and complete the work on schedule."

New safety fencing has also been installed as part of the work, to reduce the number of incidents on the car park levels.

The wider plans for the bus station also include a new stand-alone building to house a new Youth Zone, which is being developed in collaboration with On Side Youth Zones.

The concourse is currently being improved and a new public square will be created on the existing bus apron on the city centre side, improving access for people using the bus station.

The work on the bus station is being carried out by Conlon Construction based in Bamber Bridge, and Keepmoat Construction.
