The heart of Preston was alight with creativity for Brief Encounter on the evening of Saturday 23 September. Hundreds watched as Preston’s familiar city buildings were brought to life with light projections, integrated with live choral performances.

The mini procession, Luminous Landscapes started from Winckley Square at 8pm and arrived on the Flag Market 45 minutes later. Spectacular community artwork of lanterns were enjoyed by all along with stilt walkers, the Landscape Giant and a giant badger. The procession was accompanied by brilliant music from Mr Wilson’s Second Liners band, who everyone loved.

There was so much to get involved with - workshops at the Harris with record numbers of attendances, to illuminated aluminium chime bars and a project globe mapping your photos, not to mention the fun everyone had making their own sounds on the East Street Gamelan.

Councilor Peter Kelly, Cabinet member for culture and leisure said:
“The Brief Encounter event has had incredible feedback so far. As a legacy from the momentous Guild 2012 celebrations, Lancashire Encounter is a highlight of the events calendar here in Preston.

“This year, although only for one evening, we partnered with some fantastic organisations from across the county to spread the word about the festival. Thousands came to the city centre to enjoy art installations, join in workshops, make their own music or listened to choirs.
“A highlight was the Trespass light projection on the Town Hall from Imitating the Dog. The building has never looked so spectacular!”

Save the date for the full Lancashire Encounter weekend to return – Friday 21 to Sunday 23 September 2018.
