Members at YMCA Garstang Leisure Centre have given the new and improved facilities their seal of approval.

Wyre Council has invested £390,000 in the town's Windsor Road leisure centre and nearby swimming pool on Oak Road, following consultation with members of the community.

Mrs Tempan who has been a member at Garstang Leisure Centre for the last 25 years said, “The refurbishments made to the centre are impressive, what a huge improvement to the gym and changing areas.”

Refurbishments include an extended gym at the leisure centre plus new free weights section, resistance and cardio equipment, and improvements to the studio, changing rooms, toilets and reception area. A disabled changing facility has also been added.

At the swimming pool, the changing rooms have been fully refurbished.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Leisure and Culture Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council, said: "This investment has provided state of the art leisure services for communities in Garstang and surrounding areas. The centre has had a full refurbishment, including the shower and changing areas as well as the swimming pool and gym. This work has all been completed by local trades people, in budget and on time. These facilities will help promote healthy choices and healthier lifestyles for local people for years to come."

Dave Parker, YMCA Senior Aquatics Manager said: “We are very pleased with the refurbishments made to both the leisure centre and swimming pool. We hope the improvements will inspire the local community to get active with the YMCA and make full use of the new equipment and facilities on offer in Garstang.”

Gym users can experience the latest generation of cardio equipment and technology from Life Fitness, and dynamic resistance machines and a new free weights area will allow for the strengthening, toning and sculpting of the body.

A new state of the art SYNRGY90 functional training system, will further allow customers to supercharge their workout. This versatile piece of equipment will provide a setting for a new social and energised dynamic, designed to keep exercise focused to personal fitness levels.

A special taster weekend for the community to come along and see the facilities first hand is being held from 9.30am until 2pm on Saturday 24 September at the leisure centre and from 10am until 2pm on Sunday 25 September at the swimming pool.

Gym and timetabled classes will be free to attend on the day in addition to free swimming at the pool.
