Merseyside Police have launched a fresh appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the serious assault to come forward.
Police were called to the scene of an acid attack on Hawkshead Street in Southport
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “We are currently making CCTV enquiries but would appeal to anyone who has any footage to come forward.
“This could be dashcam footage taken by road users or even cyclists that were around the area at the time.”
Tests are being carried out to establish what substance was thrown at the victim and police hope to have the results in the next few days.
Detective Inspector Simon Vaughan said: “This was a shocking and completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply walking home.
“Violent robberies such as this will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police and I am sure the local community will agree this is completely unacceptable.
“I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare and patrols in the area have been increased. We are determined to find the people responsible for this and would appeal to anyone with information to call us.”

Yeah I'm sure it would have made loads of difference. Because there used to be a police officer on every street corner didn't there.

The police weren't on every corner, but the days have gone when the local coppers would dish out a clip round the ear or a boot up the backside and if the police turned up at your school or home then you knew serious consequences were due.
Sadly low level incidents are largely ignored with the simple effect, that were there are no boundaries behaviour and anti-social activities will escalate, because too many believe they are untouchable, in far too many cases they are.
Certainly it will probably be a small minority involved, but they create trouble out of all proportion to their numbers.
