A young High Park couple are the latest residents to benefit from a Southport Labour project in Norwood ward.

Labour's Group Action In Norwood (GAIN) scheme sees members from its Norwood branch responding to residents who need help.

This time it was young couple Danny and Sammi in Russell Road. The two 24-year-olds have had their hands full recently with a new addition to their family, their second child, but also had a mountain of unwanted furniture and other items that they were unable to dispose of.

The jumble was put on their drive to create space in the house but they then couldn't get rid of it, having no vehicle to carry it and being unable to arrange collection after discovering they couldn't afford the cost.

Poor weather then turned the pile into an even more unsightly problem for them and their neighbours, as Danny explained:

"We were at a bit of a loss what to do to be honest, as we weren't able to sort it out. It was there far longer than we'd have liked and I'm sure the neighbours weren't too chuffed but then the local Labour team asked if we needed a hand and within a few days they'd got it sorted. We didn't even hear the guys who came to collect it, we just opened the door to find our driveway was clear again."

Labour's prospective candidate for Norwood in May, Mhairi Doyle MBE, said they were "delighted" to be able to help Danny and Sammi:

"They are a lovely young couple with a lot on their plate at present so we were delighted to give them a hand. The Labour GAIN scheme aims to give what assistance it can to local residents in the ward."

"Our councillors Bill and Marianne Welsh work non-stop sorting issues for local residents but this is something our members themselves do to try to contribute towards improving the area for residents as well."

"We did this with the help of Sefton Council and their Bulky Items Collection Team but with the costs met by Labour and this Wednesday will see a couple of skips being delivered from us to Canning Road and Russell Road for other local residents to dump their unwanted stuff too."

For Sammi, it's great to get their garden path back and a weight lifted off their shoulders:

"It was a real pain to be honest and it was a lovely surprise to open that door and find it all gone. It's made a big difference not having to walk past that pile of stuff every day worrying about how on earth we were going to shift it and watching it get worse day after day. We are really made up with the help we received from the Labour GAIN team."

    More Labour spin.

"Our councillors Bill and Marianne Welsh work non-stop sorting issues for local residents.

    Yeah right.

Apart from street lights that take 2 months to fix.

Bill and Marianne defected from the Lib Dems to Labour. The people of Norwood ward are now being represented by a party they did not vote for.

So you ignore the actual story itself I see... anything to try and divert attention to the fact that it was Labour who helped the couple, eh?

The people of Norwood are certainly not being represented by the Lib-Dems that's for sure - as the only councillor they had left in Norwood has jumped ship from the ward as he sees there's every chance he won't get back in so is now popping up in Meols (and will be standing there instead) to do advice centres! So why not have a moan at him as he's totally left the people of Norwood in the lurch?

As to Bill & Marianne, they work hard and that's not undone by one problem with one street light which they reported but seemed to slip through the cracks.

They will also be out on Weds when Labour is delivering the skips it's arranged to help out local Norwood residents too...

Anyway, getting back to the story...

Sefton's bulk item collection service is £10 for up to 3 large items. So Labour effectively spent £20 to get free advertising on this site, and no doubt in the two local rag, as well as their own vanity publishing free sheet. Their altruism knows no bounds.

    As the good book says:

"Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret."

This will be lost on the crypto-commies, of course.

so here we a have a young couple who presumably have parents brothers and sisters friends work mates etc. And not one of them would help them take some rubbish to the tip.

Then Bingo!! a prospective Labour Councillor appears like magic and gets it removed.

it makes you want to weep.

I've a good idea what your right hand is doing most of the time.

If people helping people is what makes you cry it says a lot about you.

You've got to hand it to Labour though, whether that's at local or national level. They are masters of spin. How else would a party that is now effectively ruled and manipulated by the looney left in the shape of Momentum appear to be virtually electable. God help us.

....and as the good article says, Labour has also arranged for a couple of skips, so a few hundred quid there being stumped up... so, once again, you are totally wrong...

(not that money is the point, the point is about providing some help but you seem more concerned with the money than the help... and still got it wrong)

Btw, given the consistently vicious opinions you spew forth on here (this is by far the most pleasant I've seen from you in a while) then perhaps you need to read the good book and actually try to comprehend its message rather than just quote from it?
    Just a thought.

Certainly a lovely gesture by the Council - but was publishing the fact very wise? There could now be a potential large number of similar requests across Sefton. Being completely cynical - has this kind offer and the subsequent sought after publicity been encouraged by the forthcoming local elections by any chance?

They may be a really lovely couple pictures don't lie???? but its your mess, your stuff and your kids that have created the space problem. You deal with it!!!

It wasn't on the street and they didn't ask for help it was offered. If that's provoked your irrational outrage perhaps you haven't grown up.

Why is it an "Irrational" outrage???? I am stating people all over the place deem it Ok to get bailed out whenever the going is tough.

I am all for help I'd have shifted it for £25 and Ok it was on their drive, whatever, but just shoving it outside to the detriment of their neighbours etc.... come on. I tell you what next time YOU go and clear it up, i'll even give you a few addresses around the town where you can practice.

If I had dumped my own garbage whatever, on my own driveway and then got someone to shift it.... my old fella would have said "You lazy Bugger" or words to that affect.
