Merseyside police has today (9th April 2018) welcomed the sentencing of a man in his 30s responsible for the tragic murder of Cassie Hayes.
Andrew Burke (31) of Vincent Street, St Helens appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this morning where he pleaded guilty to the murder of Cassie Hayes. He has been sentenced to life with a minimum of 26 years.
Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “I’m pleased with the sentencing Andrew Burke has received today and I hope this goes some way to give closure to Cassie’s friends and family.
“No family should ever have to suffer the way Cassie’s has and my thoughts are with them at this time.
“Burke has taken away a mother, daughter, partner and friend – I hope he will now reflect on this and perhaps one day he’ll realise just what his actions caused, the upset he has left behind and the irreplaceable life he destroyed.”
Cassie Hayes family statement is as follows: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us through this very difficult time.
“Thank you to Paddy, our family liaison officer and his team, thank you to TUI, to victim support and the amazing girls that work there and thank you to our amazing family and friends. Thank you to each and every one of you.
“Our lives have been torn apart and we will forever be broken.”

Good result , however also a waste of public money.
A tin of rat poison can't cost more than a tenner.
Give the room to the homeless.

I get the point you're trying to make but suggesting homeless people deserve a prison cell is a terrible way to make that point.

[QUOTE=roving-eye;6633552]Merseyside police has today (9th April 2018) welcomed the sentencing of a man in his 30s responsible for the tragic murder of Cassie Hayes.
I do not know the exact facts of the case, but from what I do know, there do appear to be extenuating circumstances that should have been taken into account. I have great sympathy for the family of the young woman concerned, but I do believe that there are others whose frivolous behaviour had some effect on the sad outcome.

I totally agree and many homeless would appreciate a warm cell and being fed on a cold night they don't need to lock them in.

This is a truly tragic incident, a young women murdered in the most horrific way. To suggest there are extenuating circumstances and frivolous behaviour is crass beyond belief.
I saw a Facebook post not long after it happened making a sick joke of the incident, the person was publicly vilified, your comment isn't far short!

No, you don't. And sick malicious jokes on FB do not constitute facts. Extenuating circumstances? I can't believe I'm reading this. A man planned to brutally murder a young woman, and succesfully carried it out... not in the heat of the moment, but in cold blood.
I know you live to impress us with your all encompassing knowledge (insert sarcastic face), but sometimes you really should resist the urge to comment.
