THE Orangemen have now gone for another year leaving behind a few drunks and piles of rubbish. A small minority got a little bit boisterous but all in all a peaceful and quiet parade.
Bit unfair showing the rubbish outside the Fox and Goose as every year the pubs there send the lads out to clear up the mess as soon as the people have left. They are very good at cleaning up their patch !

Its entirely fair that these people are not pursued for their offences and instead we concentrate on more vulnerable people who are easier to pursue.
All groups who offer any resistance to law enforcement should be allowed to carry on, its much fairer and we shouldn't try to pursue anyone who isn't easy to convict.
That just about sums up the mentality of the short thinking few who post on here justifying differing application of the law..

I had the dubious pleasure of sitting next to an Ulster Volunteer Force member or supporter from Northern Ireland on the train. Hopefully that's the closest I will ever get to a terrorist for the rest of my life.

I don't think the people who post differing views to you, myself among them, justify a different application of the law, rather they have the mental capacity to understand the practicalities of such enforcement. A concept which you, sadly all to often, appear to dim to grasp.

In another life I had the dubious pleasure of being spat at, and worse, by the other side which begs the question on why we persist in allowing this 'in your face' show of bigotry.
I've no time for either side or any other side for that matter which persists in promoting aggression under the spurious guise of religion.

Why such a divisive march is allowed here I do not know. They are celebrating the defeat of Catholics by William of Orange too - it isn't just about keeping the union together. No place for this sort of thing in 2017. As an atheist I am am sick of all this religious c**p. It causes nothing but trouble. Keep all those "no surrender" headbands in Northern Ireland too - don't be bringing all that here.
What century are these people in???
"As a Protestant society, it does not accept non-Protestants as members unless they convert and adhere to the principles of Orangeism, nor does it accept Protestants married to Catholics" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Order

I completely agree. Southport needs to stop encouraging this. There of plenty of marches or other events that are not divisive that could take its place.

I am sure that you are right all difficult enforcements should be avoided.
Its so much easier to find the staff if the bar is set low.

To be fair that bit seems pretty reasonable.
As do the requirements of being an Orangemen, just a shame so few seem to adhere to them and I'm bemused as to why such a devout christian organisation attracts the dregs of humanity to watch them march.
"An Orangeman should have a sincere love and veneration for his Heavenly Father, a humble and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind, believing in Him as the only Mediator between God and man. He should cultivate truth and justice, brotherly kindness and charity, devotion and piety, concord and unity, and obedience to the laws; his deportment should be gentle and compassionate, kind and courteous; he should seek the society of the virtuous, and avoid that of the evil; he should honour and diligently study the Holy Scriptures, and make them the rule of his faith and practice; he should love, uphold, and defend the Protestant religion, and sincerely desire and endeavour to propagate its doctrines and precepts; he should strenuously oppose the fatal errors and doctrines of the Church of Rome and other Non-Reformed faiths, and scrupulously avoid countenancing (by his presence or otherwise) any act or ceremony of Roman Catholic or other non-Reformed Worship; he should, by all lawful means, resist the ascendancy, encroachments, and the extension of their power, ever abstaining from all uncharitable words, actions, or sentiments towards all those who do not practice the Reformed and Christian Faith; he should remember to keep holy the Sabbath Day, and attend the public worship of God, and diligently train up his offspring, and all under his control, in the fear of God, and in the Protestant faith; he should never take the name of God in vain, but abstain from all cursing and profane language, and use every opportunity of discouraging those, and all other sinful practices, in others; his conduct should be guided by wisdom and prudence, and marked by honesty, temperance, and sobriety, the glory of God and the welfare of man, the honour of his Sovereign, and the good of his country, should be the motives of his actions.

I have no idea why anyone would want to celebrate King William III's victory over King James II at the Battle of the Boyne. Yes, William III saved the Protestant minority of Ireland from being wiped out but it was all so long ago now.
However, I must say that many Orangemen frequented my business in the centre of Southport yesterday and every single one of them was respectful and well behaved, so I can't really complain.
