The Labour Party's problems with offshore tax financial dealings has gone up another level today - and could leave their national party homeless! The exposure in the 'Paradise Papers' of Sefton Council saving £1.6 million in unpaid stamp duty by buying The Bootle New Strand shopping centre through a Luxembourg company led to other investigations about the Labour Party and tax. This led to the discovery that Labour's national HQ offices in Victoria are rented from a Jersey-based Offshore Investment Trust.
This has led to calls for Labour to stop paying rent to this sort of a landlord. Shadow Chancellor John McDonald was questioned this morning on by John Pienaar for the BBC:
Pienaar: When it comes to the Labour Party you can decide now where you are going to rent your base?
McDonnell: That is exactly what we have been saying. We have been lobbying to say whatever company anyone is involved in, should be open, transparent and should be paying their taxes effectively.
However, Labour's tenancy contract runs until 2022. So, to stop their deal with the tax-dodgers will likely cost them dear in the pocket.
Another day, another Lib Dem style press release using the Tony Dawson “knocking opponents” advice:
Lib Dems cannot succeed when they can only score 4 percent among ‘non-conservatives’ in most of the country – so have to be able to identify and exploit weaknesses
Although not on same scale do feel the claiming high ground is more of a race to the bottom when some could see the re-renting not exactly the most transparent use of our tax money:
Coupled with the print society and employing Cllr Dawson as a caseworker, it feels like this is the most visible investment the libs brought into Southport, which is quite disappointing after 16 years or more.
Fundamentally whilst our parties operate in this “knocking” each other mentality whilst thinking we’re at war with the rest of the borough we can hardly expect much good to come for the town.

Can t the tedious, nitpicking, detatched Dawson permantly relocate to Colorado? We should crowdfund to send him on his way.
