Sefton Council has sent out letters to residents and businesses on Lord Street, Southport to let them know about an upcoming carriageway resurfacing project.
Through a series of technical surveys and engineering analysis undertaken across the borough, Lord Street has been identified as a priority for resurfacing works.
Lord Street will undergo an important series of resurfacing works, to improve the carriageway, commencing on Monday, September 18 and taking approximately six weeks to complete.
In a bid to minimise disruption, the works will be managed in four stages:
Stage 1: Duke Street to Eastbank Street
Stage 2: Eastbank Street to Nevill Street
Stage 3: Nevill Street to Manchester Road
Stage 4: Eastbank Street junction and Nevill Street Junction
Each phase will be carried out between 8am-5pm with the exception of Phase 4, which will be carried out after 7pm.
Pedestrian access to shops and amenities will be permitted at all times, while access for deliveries is restricted between 7.30am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm daily.
There will be ongoing liaisons with properties affected as the works progress.
Diversions will be in place via Duke Street, Victoria Way, Esplanade, Promenade and Seabank Road.
Cllr John Fairclough, Cabinet Member for Locality Services, said: “We are eager to improve the road surface on Lord Street, especially in the run up to Christmas time which sees a lot of people visiting Southport.
“The timing of the works has been designed to minimise the impact on businesses, residents and visitors
“Sefton is a borough on the move and regenerating the carriageway on Lord Street is a key priority for us.
“The scheme will be carried out by Dowhigh Ltd and we expect any disruption throughout the improvement works to be kept to a minimum.
“Additional information will be posted out to residents and businesses at least two weeks in advance of the works to update people further.”
For further information on road closures across the borough visit www.sefton.gov.uk.

Did you think it through ?
You have to pay people 2x to work at night, ask a taxi how much he charges after midnight or a plumber on emergency call out, so your Council Tax bill would go up, plus all the noise of digging, hammering, lorries, flashing lights etc would soon raise complaints from people who are trying to sleep in/around Lord St flats, the hotels etc

Lord St and the town went downhill when they started putting all different colours of tarmac down.
Anti skid, stupid bus lanes all wearing away at different times. A total shambles.get it red throughout please.

If it costs more than black it shouldn't happen. Why should Southport be treated any different to the rest of Sefton. People don't visit Southport for the red tarmac. And whilst Sefton are at it hey need to stop wasting money on painting lamp posts red and cream. Sefton haven't painted the lamp posts in Bootle red and cream since 1974, again why should Southport be treated any differently. I can understand to some extent in the town centre but residential streets ! NO!

Lord Street was first laid in Red Asphalt in the early 1950's and it was widely accepted that the boulevard matched that of The Mall in London, presitige you just can't buy, so on that alone it is money well spent. Incidentally they were both laid using the same propriety mix and both laid around the same time.
If we accept that lamp posts needto be painted and that includes your beloved Bootle, then why shouldn't Southport's lamp posts be painted red and cream, (the paint will cost no more than any other paint). I seem to recall it was something to do with retaining identity. Obviously a lot of the people who live in Southport feel it's a price worth paying for, maybe those in Bootle don't feel any affinity to the township of Bootle, some would say, 'who could blame them.'

Maybe the Council should stop paying 8 men in 4 lorries, 5 days a week, to clear the tonnes of crap that the residents of Bootle enjoy dumping in rear alleyways? People in glass houses etc etc mmm.

I absolutely agree with you. Unfortunately the council eare the stumbling block and won't allow this. What they need to do is not clear the crap, then those decent residents will become more and more fed up and will turn against the idiots. It's the only way. And by the way the majority of it comes from private landlords not the residents.

Similarly I find myself in agreement with you about the Council, particularly the Councillors, especially so in South Sefton.
My point though was about scale and complaning about a bit of paint and road surface dye when residents in the north might legitimately complain about some of the things money is spent on in the south.

Is there a price difference on red and black Tarmac to a company like dowhire? I would not think a lot either way. On a prestige street like Lord street. Why are locals moaning so much? Does it make any difference to their own personal day to day lives? No. Just saying like
