Morrisons is in the firing line after its recent decision to bring in Euro Car Parks to supervise its on site parking.
It means a waiting limit of just two hours at the town's biggest supermarket which hasn't gone down well at all with many shoppers.
And it's coincidentally dovetailed into a campaign update from Our West Lancashire, the independent political party, to press borough councillors for a review of such schemes which it knows is harming local trade.
Our thanks to one of our readers who forwarded this e mail after he'd signed its recent petition:
'As someone who signed our petition calling on the council to cease all negotiations with private sector providers to install automatic number plate recognition enforcement cameras on Ormskirk’s car parks, we wanted to update you.
Our West Lancashire presented a 306-name petition to the Mayor at a full meeting of councillors. Amazingly, a senior Labour councillor questioned your right as residents to sign such a petition – such is the low regard in which some councillors hold public opinion. Conservatives were silent as they have been throughout.
The council is now required to provide a response and we will update you further then. Whatever the council response, it is clear that the installation of such cameras would deter a proportion of shoppers from coming to our town – the very last thing we need at this time. We will continue to press on this matter. In the meantime, you may wish to let the candidates for the elections this week know of your opinion on this.'

Which of the council car parks use a system like this ?
Morrisons own the car park so it's nothing to do with council .
Simple fact is that if it hadn't been abused by everyone parking up and leaving a car there all day they wouldn't of had to do it .

Quite right the only people who signed the petition probably are the ones that abuse it,
Fair play to Morrison's, I know people who shop there that have driven in then straight back out because it's looked busy, when in fact half the cars there where else where but in the store,,,

What a complete non-story this is and a complete storm in a teacup. Most supermarkets and car parks already have this technology to control parking. As I understand it WLBC has no plans to increase car parking charges but does have plans to improve CCTV, technology and new pay & display machines.
Yet another scaremongering story being peddled by barmy OWL in chief Adrian Owens and his right wing anti-student lobby Group.

Cllr Furey - Here is the webpage of the Private company the Labour council are negotiating with http://www.bemrosemobile.com/ANPR.html How that encourages the business we need in Ormskirk beats me.
You are a Skelmersdale councillor. When are you bringing this enforcement to council car parks in Skelmersdale?
