Sure it's lower end as crimes go, but this is were the brain dead start, no repercussions, let's try something a bit farther up the scale, still no repercussions and so it escalates until the little "mobsters" think they can do what the hell they wish.
Sure the acid throwers must be caught and truly punished, but we must not lose sight of the idiots who inconvenience or make people lives a misery, because that's where our criminals very often come from.

Absolutely agree, this needs nipping in the bud before it escalates.

It's BBQ sauce for god sake. It's not even criminal damage. It's not like they are keying the cars or something similar. 20 seconds with a damp cloth and nothing happened. Are you going to start fining birds for ******** on cars too?
Police resources are stretched to breaking point, and people want them to go after kids dicking about?

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be your attitude if car was smeared with barbecue sauce.

Get things into perspective for god sake.
Yes I'd be annoyed if it was my car. But getting the police involved.. Really? you can't think of anything better for the police force to be doing?

Hmm, I not to sure about that, you may recall the incident with the 10 year old girl who chalked on the road to allow her to play hop scotch, she was warned by 2 policemen that she was committing criminal damage.
There's also this link as well https://www.theguardian.com/law/2012...rs-should-know

Yes the police have more than enough to deal with, certainly have more important things to deal with.
But.
The days are gone when locals could grab these kids, drag them back home and hand them over to parents, or administer a bit of instant justice, so how do you feel we should curb or stop low level vandalism? Shrugging our shoulders and just leaving it be is NOT an answer.
From personal experience, a few years back we suddenly had a spate of stones being thrown over a fairly tall hedge at our conservatory, by the time we got outside no-one in sight, until one day I was in the garden when the first stones came over, I was out of the gate pretty quickly, some lads were vanishing round the corner, but one lad was stood there sheepishly dropping stones in the gutter and trying to look as if he was waiting for a bus.
This lad was as tall as me, so not a young child, I wasn't polite when speaking to him and the little s**t responded that I couldn't do anything or speak to him like that, at the time I had a garden fork in my hand, my response was to inform him that if he came around again throwing stones I would wrap this garden fork round his neck.
Was I right or wrong? but the stone throwing ceased and no need to get police involved.

They have?
Maybe some of us just don't have the bottle to confront others. To easily threatened maybe? Personally I'm more than happy to stand up for what is right with kids or adults. So easy just to say it's somebody else's job. So for me you did the right thing, Although threatening with a weapon may have got you in trouble.
I had a few incidents when I lived in old park lane. kids throwing stones at the house next door to ours. Chased them off. Also got burgled while we where their. Went and got the crook lock from my car and searched the house for the little shits. Fortunately for them and I guess me too, they had already scarpered. As there would have been no questions asked. they would have been leaving in an ambulance and I guess I'd have been up on a grievous bodily harm charge.
