Residents who wish to use West Lancashire Borough Council’s chargeable garden waste collection service from 5 June 2017 can sign up and pay from 19 April 2017. Residents who sign up before 15 May 2017 will be guaranteed no interruption to their service, which will continue as normal on a fortnightly basis.
The charges will apply from 5 June 2017. It will cost £30 per year for one green bin to be emptied, per year. Householders will also be able to have additional green bins emptied at a cost of £25 each, per year and additional bins can also be purchased if needed.
The quickest and most convenient way to sign up and pay is via the website www.westlancs.gov.uk/gardenwaste.
Residents can choose whether or not to use the garden waste collection service after the free service ends on 2 June. Residents who decide not to sign up and pay will be able to dispose of garden waste at household waste recycling centres, or compost it.
The Council will, from 19 April, deliver a leaflet to every household in the borough giving information about the changes. Information is also provided at www.westlancs.gov.uk/gardenwaste,
Heidi McDougall, Director of Street Scene Services, said: “Residents who sign up and pay, can enjoy the benefits of using the service on a fortnightly basis, can help minimise the amount of waste going to landfill and contribute towards protecting the environment".

I thought this was included in our council tax rates . Some may say it's only 8 pence a day , it's not . The garden waste is only taken away every 2 weeks , and not over the months of winter ?
A disgrace . Next year it will probably increase just like visitors parking permits that went from £10 to £25 .
Our council tax has increased . I suggest that councillors look at their own allowances first , they voted themselves to retain, the highest in Lancashire !

I certainly won't vote Labour in a few weeks. Our politicians are elected to represent us.
When there was a public consultaiton on this more than 80% were opposed to it, so what did they do - ram it through anyway?
What is it with so many of them that they forget so easily that they are supposed to serve and take their marching orders from us? They are shameless as they will come round in the next week or two brazenly looking for votes. My message to them - no chance because you are not serving me but just doing your own thing.

I totally agree . I won't be paying for a green bin , my council tax has increased , the councillors sit pretty and keep their allowances , they don't listen to residents who they are supposed to be representing ! Shameful to even state ' green bins were free ' . I won't be voting for them either . They are not representing me or my neighbours .

Just goes to show how thick they are,
People will just hide it in the grey bins, which will increase how many times the bin lorry will have to be emptied savings = 0
Or fly tipping will increase .... Oh sorry it already has since they starting charging for taking rubble and soil to the tip #genius not
