Developers want to build a 96 bedroomed hotel and replacement retail unit on the ground floor after partial demolition and remodelling of the existing shopping centre Marble Place Southport PR8 1DF.
Marble Place is a modern covered shopping centre situated off Chapel
Street in the defined Southport Central Area. The shopping centre is
arranged around an L shaped covered mall which links its main entrances
on Chapel Street (Southport’s pedestrianised main shopping street) and
Tulketh Street (which is also pedestrianised at this point).
2.2 The main anchor tenant is TK Maxx, which occupies a large unit on the
south and west sides of the mall. Other occupiers include reatilers of
phones, health and beauty, clothes, a newsagents and a butcher.
2.3 Marble Place occupies a central and highly accessible location in Southport
town centre, with the mainline railway station and major car parks less
than 100 metres from the application site.
The project Developer, Humber Investments Ltd, are seeking to secure full planning consent for the erection of a hotel (comprising 96 bedrooms, entrance lobby, dining room, kitchen and ancillary accommodation) and the erection of a replacement retail unit (unit 14) located on Tulketh street in Southport. Following a successful consent, Humber Investments Ltd intend to build out the development to achieve an active regeneration of the site that will create identity and functionality at a prime location on a major high street in Southport.

For a modern hotel?
And who's to say the owners of the BHS site would be agreeable to it?
Your house might be a better option for me to live in but as the owner you might not be agreeable to that.

No. A planning application has been submitted. No decision has been made yet.

Maybe whoever owns the BHS site doesn't want their building to be a hotel?

I think there is. It looks like they are keeping the ramp to the loading bay at the back which is where i would presume they would put the parking. However the space isn't big enough for all the guests they plan to have !!
Not to mention it would make it a little risky with more cars coming and going up there !

What do you mean no parking? There are 3 car parks on Tulketh Street! I hope that TK Maxx will stay - best shop in Southport!

TK Maxx is not affected, most of the shop units are unaffected.
There will be no car parking at the hotel as there are plenty nearby car parks and easy access to public transport.

With "all" the car parks pay and display and patrolled by the vultures, of little use to hotel guests, I can just imagine booking into a hotel knowing you've got to go and move your car every 3 hours.

Have a look at the plans or perhaps read them before more negative reports, doesn't seem that bad to me.
