Old photos - Liverpool Road, Birkdale

Top o' the afternoon to you all,

Does anybody have any photos from the late 70s/early 80s of the shops on Liverpool Road in between Norfolk Grove and Sandon Road? I'm thinking Mick's Veg, Forshaw's Bakers, the telly shop, the wool shop, Ball's hairdressers, Holt's newsagents and the Spar across the road (Dally's??).

I grew up around this area and it's be great to see it as I remember from my childhood.

    Thanks in advance :-)

Strangely enough, I've never seen any pics of any area of Birkdale on here. Can't think why.
I also grew up in the area and always remember the Florists at the crown, the launderette, Fulton's paper shop, the sweet shop on the same block as Ted Taylors....
I also remember lawsons frozen foods, Riddington and Rimmers, Tesco (where Ennis's is now) also a Kentucky Fried Chicken.

1981, bang in the middle of the years you were looking for! Sunday morning, and it was the monthly march of the Liverpool Road Methodist Church, with the Girls Brigade Band leading the event.
Would I be right that Petrol at the Mobil was 1.49 per gallon ?

Try asking at the library in town - I believe they have an archive of old photos of Southport

Southport reference library have loads of photos and they're all indexed so you should be able to find something if they have it

  6. It was a DIY shop where the Bargain Booze place is now. The Thompsons used to own it.
That must have been late 70s

VG was where Paul Ennis's place was.

Dora's....next door to Crown DIY where myself and my uncle worked in the mid 80's from about 83 to 87-ish

One of the aforementioned Thompsons was in my year at Farnborough Rd. I'm looking for old pics of Birkdale Station /Upper Aughton Rd area where there used to be loads of shops. Now it's just down to a handful.
I think I may venture into town on Saturday morning and go and ask to see some of these pictures they've got hidden away. It could be interesting

I searched several photo albums to find that one, I am sure hidden in the depths of family photoes there will be other pictures of that section of Liverpool Road. If there are, I will download them.
The Mobil had competition from a garage across the road selling petrol too! Both long since gone.

    Garages

Remember the Texaco garage that was the first service station to do the lottery...??
I used to go down there on a Saturday afternoon, then Spar over the road started doing it a few months later.
There was also Riddington and Rimmer that was where Road Range is now. Anyone remember also the Fishmongers on Eastbourn Rd?? I'm sure it's where the Pizza Shop is now.

Yes she did, I remember when it became the VG shop in around 1977-8. She also worked at Spar in around 1980-81 but didn't like it.
