Fire at Bradleys Firework Factory & Sunday School Parade - Southport 1968? [VIDEO]
A small clip of the fireworks factory fire in Southport around 1968.
Dont have much footage as it was filmed over i think from the footage i have.
I noticed a post from member Flyp asking for info a while back.
If anyone knows this member it might be footage they would like to see?
Also a small clip of the Regular Sunday School parade march down Russell Road?
Again my dad took this footage from a front bedroom window.
Making 'Excelsior' fireworks, the place was a disaster waiting to happen, storing far too many/much explosive material in the outbuildings. When the first one went up it created a domino effect.
My sister Christine can be found on the Russell Road parade about 48 secs into the clip wearing white and a cheesy grin to dad.
Fool me once - shame on you. Fool me twice - shame on me!
that was brill thanks.more memories was born in one of those prefabs in wavell ave,my nan worked at the factory.she always told me how she ran across the golf hell for leather.and mrs burrows had that corner shop on russell road.ha didnt manage to see anybody i knew on the parade.thanks again
I lived in the Wavell pre-fabs as well. I remember (just) the firework factory exploding. My mates mum worked there and had some horror stories of people getting quite badly burned.
it wasnt in russell road.it was on the golf behind wavell avenue maybe at the back of russell road playing fields so was classed as russell road.cannot remember the exact spot
any one know how long the firework factory been there for, my mom said my grandad worked there, it must have been a long time ago though as he died in the late 50s
The sunday school procession was in russell road, but the fire was on the field behind wavell ave as this footage was taken from my bedroom window at the time by my father when i was a little girl

I have three (possibly more) Photo of all the women that worked there (my mum was ther!!!) just a matter of months before the place blew up, no doubt some of the photographs are of those that perished ... I also have the news story from local paper (somewhere) and various adverts for this product. Will try and get them on a.s.a.p. - Rod

Hi Rodders,
Did you ever get around to posting the photos. Am currently looking into the Southport Fireworks Company and would be very interested in any information you have.
Thanks
Steve
