Cambridge AnalyticaI
I see CA is going under, probably to duck further investigation and possible compensation claims, as ever the whole thing stinks.
Is there any honesty in the finance and info tech world?

A new company has been registered at the same address, by the same people, Emerdata. However unethically they have behaved, there is no evidence (apparently) of legal wrongdoing.

There are other potential data scandals out there.
An nhs data breach would pale CA's.

Short answer is 'no'. The war for our data and how to use it to influence us, to the point of steering us in a particular direction even in elections, is massive and raging. Social media companies try to display a veneer of concern, but they are no more moral than the likes of CA.
It seems our data is a very valuable commodity. Like most commodities, decency is out of the window. It is whoever has the most wields the greatest power.

The problem.
nhs services used by people not entitled under the terms of immigration.
The pressure.
Public and the press and political opposition and The Government.
The dilemma.
Patient confidentiality.
The result.
Home office requests using the force of law to demand patient information.

It amazes me how shocked people were over CA. They are but a tiny pin prick given the amount of data mining/capture and subsequent manipulation of people that goes on every time someone goes on the internet.
As an example, I was in searching for paving stones over the weekend, and this website (as i see it) is now full of adverts advertising paving stones. Classic manipulation.

Yes - that sort of stuff is best ringfenced in some other app.

The Government has now reviewed nhs data rules.
"Patient records will now only be shared to help trace individuals facing deportation because they have committed a serious crime.
Ministers tightened the rules after MPs raised concerns the policy breached patient confidentiality. Sharing NHS information with enforcement officers had been part of Government efforts to create a ‘hostile environment’ for illegal immigrants.
Digital Minister Margot James announced the U-turn in the wake of the Windrush scandal during the Parliamentary debate on the Data Protection Bill."

The problem is using Dr confidentiality that breeches human rights.
Using the nhs system to investigate illegal immigration is fair game being a free at the point of delivery nationalised service.
The State just has to find a better way of doing it.
