The Dancing Drunk Guy in Southport, Possibly on Drugs.

You can't possibly have failed to see this guy over the last few years. He seems to get around, mainly around Churchtown & town Centre.
He's pretty young, probably mid to late twenties, and currently has a beard.

I've seen him many times and recently I'm starting to worry about his welfare. Previously I would see him just begging outside Co-op.

Over the last few weeks I have seen him dancing to his own tune in Churchtown by the lights and in the town centre.
I've also seen a police van with him twice.

Anyone know this guy. I've talked to him before and he seems pretty chill. just out on his luck.

I think he needs help, just wish our society was in a position to help these individuals

I saw him waltzing down the road near Hesketh park earlier this week, last week he was begging by the Station in town, a regular haunt of his. A couple of years ago he was working as a carer as I saw him (uniformed) in a group in the park. I think he lives around Marshside, I always got the impression that he was just making a bit extra with the begging but he does seem to be away with the fairies now.

    I've seen him many times.

Offered him a sandwich once and he ran off. He is usually on Chapel Street, sometimes on Nevill St after dark. He doesn't seem to be one of the beggars bussed in from Fazakerley.

I agree, he does seem to be getting more erratic. But I wouldn't approach him personally. Perhaps there's a homeless unit at the council that could help?

It is difficult to know when a person is safe and when intervention is needed.

He is quite a pleasant guy to talk to. He always gives me a wave when I go past. Yes, he does appear to live out at Marshside, not far from Stanley High School, I have often seen him there. A while back he suddenly appeared to be smart and clean for a while - it could have been that social services were involved after he had been picked up by the Police for begging. I don't think he is on drugs, he does not look as if he is, I think he is just an eccentric loner who enjoys talking to people. Stop and chat to him - he is quite affable.

Twas always the same, life throws up its characters.

There have been many in Southport over the years often with a tale to tell.

As a direct descendant of the original Marshside mafia/community, nobody lives 'out' at Marshside. Don't ridicule a community in public.

Everyone has problems in their lives at one time or another. Some choose to share them - others don't. Casting judgement on social media isn't big & it definitely isn't clever.

Doesn't 'out at Marshside' just mean away from the town centre?

I know 'said' writes some tosh, but I don't see what is offensive about 'out at Marshside'. Like out at Scarisbrick, or out at Ainsdale. Not in the middle.

    Precisely!

    Mountain out of a molehill

Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

I saw him a few weeks ago on the 44 heading toward marshide. He had a partially drunk litre bottle of vodka with no lid on. He dropped his change on the floor bent down to pick it up without altering the position of the bottle ,vodka spilled out over floor. He just staggered to a seat sat down and started drinking. The lad definitely has problems.
On a slightly different note I haven't seen the "walking man" who lived rough up moss Lane in the allotments for a while. He used to walk around all day.
I think his name is Steven

Talking of communities, it's Easter weekend - time of year 'travellers' were paying us a visit?

I don't think I've seen the 'walking man' around since before the pandemic started, I think he was ex military.
