A section of a major route in to Liverpool will be closed nightly from Saturday, 9 September as part of the final phase of a £3m upgrade.

Carriageway resurfacing works will see the following sections of the inbound carriageway of the East Lancs Road (A580) fully closed from 7pm to 6am daily, except Sunday.

The in-bound carriageway will be closed from 9th – 23rd September between Stonebridge Lane to the entrance to Lower Lane.

There will also be lane closures from 25th – 27th September for the installation of traffic signal cables in the road.

Access to the Showcase Cinema and adjacent retail area will be maintained.

Drivers are advised to follow diversion notices or find alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Cabinet member for highways, Cllr Steve Munby, said: “This is an important key route in and out of Liverpool carrying thousands of vehicles every day and this work is part of a wider commitment to bring our major roads up to standard following decades of under investment.

“We are doing what we can to mitigate the impact on motorists by carrying out major works at night when there is far less traffic.”

The work on the inbound carriageway follows completion of work on the outbound side overnight on 7th /8th September.

The upgrade to the East Lancs Road is part of the £250m Better Roads programme to improve the city’s transport infrastructure.
