Following a media appeal by Alicia McAteer, the mother of Aidan McAteer, Merseyside Police is issuing an image of Aidan, aged 23, as part of continuing efforts to find him.

The day after the collision, four-year-old Violet-Grace Youens died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Her grandmother Angela French is still receiving treatment for serious injuries in hospital.

Following Aidan's mother's appeal, we would like to appeal to him to contact us as soon as possible and would also like to appeal to anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact us.

Update - 12.55pm Monday 27 March

A 27-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been detained at a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.

Update - 9.30am Monday 27 March

A 23-year-old man from Prescot has been arrested on suspicion of being carried on a stolen vehicle. He has been released pending further enquiries.

Violet Grace Youens Merseyside Police can confirm that the four year-old girl injured in a serious road traffic collision in St Helens on Friday has sadly passed away.



Violet Grace Youens, who is from the St Helens area, passed away in hospital late last night, Saturday 25th March, following the collision on Prescot Road, St Helens on Friday afternoon. She leaves a 21 month-old brother Oliver.

Violet’s pancreas and both kidneys were donated following her death. In a brief statement the family said that they were “Devastated by the loss of their beautiful daughter but they wanted the organ donations to benefit other children and give them a chance to lead long and happy lives”.

Violet’s Nannie, Angela French, 55, remains in serious but stable condition.

An investigation into the incident remains underway and a number of lines of enquiry are being pursued by officers.

The four year-old girl currently remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The 55 year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

CCTV St Helens 1 Detectives have this evening, Friday 24th March, issued CCTV images of two males they want to trace following a serious road traffic collision in St Helens.

The two males were seen running away from the area after a black Ford Fiesta car was involved in a collision with two pedestrians, a woman in her 50s and a four year-old child, on Prescot Road, at around 3pm today.

An investigation is currently underway and officers believe the two males pictured could assist with their enquiries.

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in St Helens this afternoon (Friday, 24 March 2017).

A stolen black Ford Fiesta car came to the attention of patrols shortly before being involved in a collision with two pedestrians, a woman and child, on Prescot Road at around 3pm. The car was also in collision with a lamppost.

The pedestrians, a woman in her 50s and a four-year-old girl, have both been taken to hospital for treatment.

The child’s condition is described as critical. The woman is in a serious but stable condition.

Two male occupants of the car left the scene of the collision on foot.

The first male is described as white, aged 15-20, around 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, with brown hair. He was wearing a royal blue t-shirt and royal blue shorts.

The second male is described as being white, aged 15-20, with brown medium length hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts and dark trainers.

Prescot Road remains closed from Lugsmore Lane to Dunriding Lane and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
