Solid silver chalice...
i am looking to find out some info on this chalice i have and was thinking you might be able to shed some light on it.
i really know very little about where its from or when it was made or for who it was made.
i will tell you what i do know.
as i said its a chalice of some kind, solid silver (although it has no silver hallmarks) i know it is solid silver because i had it tested by a jeweller and it tested for high grade silver.
the high grade silver bit confused me along with the fact that the base of the item looks machine made so that really killed my theory that it was hand made by monks using coin silver
It may test silver because the plating may be very thick.
You will have to scrape or gouge a mark in the underside to test properly.
The turning marks I can see in the photo looks to me like it is a plated item.
The shape does not look chalice shaped.
what is the height.
It looks small, more like a plated grapefruit dish. If so very little value.
