Well I know that, I live in one. But I'd assumed the burglars wouldn't park a stolen car on someone else's property then fall asleep in it...

My reaction is just getting straight to the point, sadly not all burglaries are as simple as one bad day, some some people, experiencing a burglary can be life changing for all the wrong reasons and I know, because I suffered a burglary at the age of 18. I had 2 weeks rent taken from me and was VERY lucky and I mean VERY VERY lucky not to have been turfed out onto the streets by an eviction notice as I was already struggling enough financially at the time.

Since then, I have always wherever possible kept my money in my bank account and paid my bills via direct debit and only withdraw money when I absolutely have to.

The lesson I learnt from my encounter is don't ever underestimate the security of your own home, one bad day can seriously change your life for all the wrong reasons!!

Thanks for all your kind words (well most of you)

Oldduffer - at no point did I say I presented them with a golden opportunity or that I had left my windows or doors open, I merely wanted to remind everyone the importance of not doing so. My doors and windows were all locked.

Very sorry to hear about this. Same thing happened to my friend a couple of weeks ago - he also lives on Kew. Scum bags. Wouldn't mind but even when they catch them red handed there's beggar all they can do.

To anyone reading this, please don't leave your keys anywhere near your front door as all it takes is for someone to go through the letterbox with a broom handle and a hook to get the keys and not only clear the house out, but take the car as well.
I am not sure I completly agree with this. Certainly do not leave your keys in sight of the door where they can be hooked out and they can let themselves in.

However my advice would be to leave your car keys downstairs within sight of the front door (able to see them once broken in but not through the letterbox). Otherwise if you have a desirable car you may find the robbers coming upstairs to get them off you...

We are all insured and I would rather they took my car than threatened my family to get the keys. There are no point for being a hero in these situations.

Seems like very sensible advice Rainmaker although sadly (luckily?), as the owner of a Fiat Doblé I don't suppose I need worry!

Sorry to hear about the break in Cooperman

If it wasn't for a sharp eyed lady who spotted a suspicious car parked in an underground garage at 7am on Thursday morning I may never have got my stuff back, If your reading this thank you so much (I have asked the police for your details to send personal thanks)
Apparentlythey had ran my car out of diesel and were waiting for cash converters to open to sell my stuff to get fuel... They fell asleep in the car and were woken up by 6 policemen dragging them out by the ear
Anyway it is only property and no one was hurt.
Just thought I would remind everyone to lock the doors and windows at night.

HAhA...me thinks a tv appearance on Worlds Dummest Criminals springs to mind.

On a sympathetic note and more seriously though, thank god you and yours are ok. What total knobheads they are. Thanks for the warning.
