I'll speak slowly.....
The OP's quote (above in bold italics) would seem to suggest that only part of the VIN is known which, even in the unlikely event the police would be interested, is of little or no use.
Particularly as the way the series of numbers are issued you will often find that there are 100s of very similar vehicles with the same prefix, particularly if its an ex fleet car - which is a near certainty certainty if it is a 2006 Vectra.

Southports a small place, a RED vectra on an 06 plate can't be such a common car... Problem is the fireworks, could have been from anywhere...
Hoping the CCTV will have caught them anyway, should be cameras there due to the cash machines next to where I was parked.
Hit & Run is a serious offence, police aren't taking this lightly.

You're getting confused between VIN and VKI, or vehicle identification number and vehicle keepers' index.

Will find them
Unfortunately there are no camera's around there. I only found out when I saw one of the scumbags on my sons stolen bike, I ask the police to check the cctv (I gave them the exact time) as evidence but they informed me there is no cctv on Eastbank Street, I thought it was crazy seeing that is their local hangout with stolen property. I hope you find them but I think the chances are very slim unfortunately.

Not wishing to disillusion you in any way, but about 4 years back a Transit van hit me in the side, spun my car round and I finished up in someones drive, Transit switched his lights off and away.
This was just going into Banks, the police were more concerned with whether it was down to Merseyside or Lancashire to deal with, both equally determined to do nothing.
We actually tracked the van down, the owner denied all knowledge, surprise, surprise and that was the end of it, forget any ideas of the police taking paint samples or carrying out any forensic testing, it isn't going to happen.

Sadly I'd imagine the car is long gone, Doute the police are in the least bit interested as there was no one hurt. Not a chance in hell they go through hours of video footage for what is a minor bump. It sucks but it's true.
