I've said this before, but it warrants repeating. Southport is virtually the only sea front airshow in the country that charges the public to view. Eastbourne - free. Torbay - free, Blackpool- free, Sunderland- free, Scottish Int (Ayr) - free.

Well, charging to view doesn't seem to put visitors off, judging by the massive annual tailbacks into town.....If the main idea is to get money in, then charging makes perfect sense.

With everywhere being fenced off, how are the 2 sailing clubs and the waterside camping area accessed during the air show?

The Firework shows are also free in Blackpool.

You can get through security with a sailing club parking permit. They used to have members' BBQ's.

Just stick the costs on the rates, that will be fine for everyone, or would it.
None of these shows are "free" someone picks up the bills, should it be showgoers, local business, or ratepayers?

Presumably the others (which include my local Southport equivalent, Clacton) have worked out that it is worth it.

They charge because they can close it off, the sea wall, without totally disrupting through traffic, the Prom stays open. Black pool and other seaside towns cannot do that. Blackpool has buses and trams operating on their Prom.
In that context I don't blame them.

Yeah lets make it free so that twice as many people want to come but can't actually get here because the roads can't cope...

So, let`s get this right........ people actually PAY in order to see something high up in the sky.
O.K. what`s the old saying about fools and money?

That's right paid by the viewing public, not the general public.

Has it not occurred to people here that other seaside councils would dearly love to be able to charge, but they cannot isolate their roads to the beach?
