Is the moral of this thread to do with The 'Christian' reaction to
hate and violence?
Not really! I was curious to discover as to why there was opposite statements made in the Bible. Was there some incident that occurred between the time of writing the first statement i.e of 'turning the other cheek' - to the time of writing the second later statement 'an eye for an eye'. The Bible was initially written by Hebrew Scholars long before the creation of Islam.

The interpretation would vary from The OT written before The NT.
The quote is mentioned in Exodus before re quoted in Mathew which I
presume is the difference after Christianity.

"Let the dead bury the dead."
IMPOSIBLE
The words written in all the Holy Books can be interpreted and has been in so many ways by the learned and the educated.
"The meek will inherit the earth"
Jesus said "Love thy neighbour"
Muhammad said " Love a none Muslim more than a Muslim"
and so on,
But mankind does not listen ................. The world has taken on the laws of Moses. Jesus brought the commandment of Love and Muhammad brought Nation Building to society.
Now the time has come,
we live in is this time of
"The Oneness of the Human Race."
Think Globally but act Locally. Put all your prejudices away.

There is no prejudice! Mankind would never have evolved the way it has unless people questioned the world around them - we would all be living in mud huts still If people were not curious.
All humans have the same biological make up - it is the mind where differences lie. This is a very complex field, and even humans of like minds who group together, have differences of opinion. That is the reason why open discussion is interesting, don't you think?
"Nation Building?" is not the term that I would use to describe the intentions of the writing of the Koran.
