    Do you know your rights

A beautiful sunny day, one of the very few we seem to get - to enjoy a lovely peaceful day in your garden. NOT!

Two different houses in the neighbourhood have fairly new tenants - each of whom appeared to be totally ignorant of the legislation covering anti social behaviour and noise. Each decided to play their own choice of music very loudly with all their doors and windows open.

When a complaint about this was made to them - each was under the impression that they were allowed to play their music as they wanted to between the hours of 7am until 11pm.

This is wrong! Only industrial premises have to abide by this rule. For private households, any loud noise, at ANY time that affects your neighbours enjoyment is not allowed. There are exceptions, i.e. an occasional party, or necessary repair work etc., but unnecessary noise is classed as pollution caused by anti social behaviour.

I spent an unpleasant morning explaining this very tactfully to some indignant neighbours. Did anyone else have the same problem?

Fortunately we have very considerate neighbours and have never had a problem.
If it seems likely that this is a problem that may be ongoing, record snippets on your phone and make a note of how long it goes on for - keep a diary. Environmental Health will ask for this if you have to make a complaint to them.

Dont waste your time on this one Darkside. He is someone who even objects to his harmless next door neighbour expressing temporary enthusiasm, when his favourite soccer club scores a goal He'd probably be better off living in a deserted bothy in the middle of the Outer Hebrides. But then he'd probably whinge at the local shepherd about the noisy sheep!!
Just be yourself, no one else is better qualified!!

Huh! How could it be deserted if there are bloody sheep there, twit! Actually, their stink is worse than their bleating! I have absolutely no problem with my neighbours - though this one is a bit worrying, seeing as he was standing in his underwear at an upper window throwing stones out of his window and cackling loudly to himself! The noisy stones woke me up.

No trouble with the neighbours?? Then why the idiotic opening post. Perhaps you're just a lonely attention seeker? You'll get no sympathy on here!

Ha!Ha! If I wanted sympathy, this site is the last place to go for it. Lonely? That would make a nice peaceful change and I have always had attention paid to me - story of my life! I do not have a problem with any neighbours - one has a problem with me though.

So you are obviously crawling along the wrong branch of the tree, sunshine! Try something more pugilistic!
