Anyone know?
There was a head of Dan Dare on a pedestal at the entrance of Cambridge Arcade, the town hall end, some years ago. Wonder where it has gone?
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

I'v been a member of this forum for a while, but reading through this makes me wonder where so many knowledgable interesting posters have gone. In the years i,v been here loads have gone. Few I agreed with but most were worth listening to.

Blackadder link
Miranda Richardson came from Southport, she played Queen Elizabeth I in Blackadder II which is currently being repeated on Saturday nights.
Dora Bryan, Robin Askwith, AJP Taylor also come from Southport.

That's the nature of all forums. Folks come and go.. I remember when the rise of social media brought with it predictions of the demise of message boards. It never happened and the vigour and enthusiasm of the posters on this one explains why.

I've just been through this thread so as to avoid duplication, and I don't think anyone has mentioned Marc Almond, of Soft Cell/Tainted Love fame.
He was born as Mark Peter Sinclair Almond in Southport in 1957. His family moved away when he was four, but moved back again.
Sorry if this has already been posted.

I think he was mentioned and on other earlier threads it was pointed out that he made a visit or two to some of the Northern Soul venues. Or did I dream that?
For me a much more interesting and discussion worthy Sandgrounder is Birkdale born historian, AJP Taylor.
I would love to learn about his dad's cotton mill. Where was it?
Please come in, Said and do your research!

I saw a TV documentary many years ago, which was a trip around the entire coastline of Great Britain. Each programme was narrated by a famous person who had been born/brought up in the stretch of coast that that week's programme was about.
When they did the Lancashire coast, the narrator was AJP Taylor, and he was standing in his favourite place in Southport, which was the Fernery in the Botanic Gardens. As a child, it was my favourite place too.
