For those interested in a new Hobby
A university in West Lancashire is to become the first higher education institution in the UK to offer a module dedicated to the art of drag.
“Despite the fact that performers have been 'dragging up' since Shakespearean times, this module is completely unique in exploring the crossing of boundaries in terms of gender and performance.
“As part of undergraduate studies, this module not only explores drag as a highly camp performance art, it also engages with complex gender, feminist and queer theory to explore the social and political implication of 'doing gender' in performance. Drag as a performance art form has seen a relative decline in the past decade, yet there are new and exciting emerging forms coming through which makes this module all the more relevant to performance contexts. There's a lot more to drag studies than wigs, make-up and high heels!”

It's quite old news, that module has been running for a couple of years as part of the BA Drama and Performing Arts degree at Edge Hill University.
Creative arts creates a gross value add of around £92Bn to the UK economy, so it is not in itself a bad thing. How much of that is generated by Edge Hill D&P graduates I don't know, they have a few famous alumni, none of whom studied on this course.
As with much of Edge Hill's output, it's pretty much the worst locally, you would do much better at John Moores, LIPA, UCLAN or preferably Manchester.

By the way, the cost of studying for that hobby is just under £28k for three years, without paying for your costumes.

Well the timing is right I would imagine it will be well attended.

The few famous alumni attended Edge Hill before it became a University. The college building itself is a very pretty building that has now been totally dwarfed by the large number of modern buildings surrounding it. There have been a number of complaints from local people about the over large expansion of the facility.

The first drag queen that I came to know was when I was twelve years old - he really was a fantastic entertainer, REALLY funny. I have met two others since. None attended any lessons to learn their trade. as far as I know - they were just completely natural.
