How about everyone planting a tree
In response to local councils cutting back trees everywhere - those people who have the space could be planting a tree in their own gardens. So many gardens are becoming to look like industrial yards now just because people cannot be bothered with gardening.
I have already done so, but it will take many years for mine to become established.
So, how many of the posters on Q local would be willing to do that?

I'm planting an apple tree in my garden this year. Had one at our previous house and I really miss stepping into the garden in September and picking an apple straight from the tree, can't beat it!
That said, anyone who plants a Leylandii should be shot.
I'm only happy when it rains....

Apple tree, but it will be a couple of years before it's close to producing anything substantial

Does anyone remember 'Plant a Tree in 73' campaign?

The Council had a scheme that every planning application that was approved, had to plant 3 trees. If they hadn't got the ground to do this, they paid the council £1,000. for the council to plant them elsewhere. Does this still apply?

No, I do not remember that! It should be followed now. There is a reason for everything nature provides and there is nothing more important than trees and shrubs.

It should do! There should be more than three trees for the huge projects that have been undertaken.

My daughters are planting roses in honour of their Grandma.
If I had a garden I would plant a Magnolia tree.

Would mean putting a hole in my Artificial Lawn to plant a tree,so I'll just buy one in a large pot,and stick it on the patio.

It was a government scheme after Dutch Elm disease ravaged trees.

I've planted several lovely trees over the years - unfortunately I now seem to be plagued by unwanted attention from "tree surgeons" who want to remove them (which is particularly annoying at this time of year - ie: during bird nesting season).
Reminds me of years ago when uninvited double-glazing salesmen used to be forever on the prowl!

Yes, I had one of those knock on my door a couple of years ago. He said he had noticed the large birch tree in my back garden and he could remove it if I wanted him to. I told him no thanks, that the tree was not in my garden but in the neighbours, and that it was not a birch tree, it was a poplar. A so called expert I would not have wanted to hire anyway.
