How to take macro pictures without a macro lens.
Probably of little interest to most, but someone may be inspired by it.
Took this image with a canon 24-105L lens. The lens was not even attached to my canon 60D but placed on a table and the camera placed against it. But the trick bit is having the lens back to front. (i.e. large end to the body of the camera. I've got an adaptor on the way to mount it securely, but in the mean time been having a little play.
First a 6"/150mm steel rule.
Next a new £1 coin.
They're not perfect, but not bad for a freehand shot.

It may sound naive (its a long time since I did photography), but I didn't realise that you could do this with a modern lens.

Now with adapter to connect the lend and body together, and using LIVE view to focus... Second image is same lens connected the correct way round. Click image for full size picture.

Reminds me - one of the things I have promised myself once house move happens, car is replaced and daughter finishes uni - a return to proper photography.
