Hurricane Irma heading for Florida.
We were in Florida in 2004 when Hurricane Charley hit.
Quite an experience!
Florida had a dedicated 'hurricane path' channel which tourists in our hotel watched Charley coming nearer.
Luckily the path changed and veered away from a direct hit.
Still there was quite a bit of damage loss of power and a few trees
on car roofs outside the hotel.
We eventually got a flight home 2 days later than scheduled due to the airport being closed.

High Carbon Economy Donald
Wonder what Trump makes of all this carnage....Surely as a businessman, he must realise the cost to economy of repeated mega-storms will outweigh short-term advantage of piping more oil/digging more coal?
My guess is he'll blame it all on the Chinese and carry on increasing U.S. carbon dioxide output regardless.

What have the innocent people of North Korea done to deserve that?

I was in Miami last October just after the hurricane season , everything just normAl , but then Florida got off lightly . Even saw Mr Trump at his "Trump National golf and Hotel and Spa ". Very nice indeed . The hotel I mean .. Costa Del Sol from 18th .. Some nice golf , sun , and Red Wine .

At least people in Miami can leave the coastal areas and get to a safer area, the people on the numerous small islands already hit didn't have that opportunity, the devastation on many islands is bad to the point of almost wiped out.

True.

Im in Davenport FL at the moment. We are on a 5pm curfew from tomorrow and have set in place all we can and riding it out. The forecast is 145-165mph winds for about 12 hours before slowing down. The comments about Trump - not sure how that fits in or helps any of us here, but from local opinion tbey have absolute faith in the system and watching all the news reports its well organised.
Its going to be catastrophic, worse than Andrew they tell us. All we can do is sit in a safe place probably a corner away from windows and expect the power to drop. Challenging hours ahead.

Yet again, another opinion based on nothing but what you have seen and read in the MSM.

I've got friends out in Naples, FLA. They, along with the whole town, have left. The flew the whole family out to Houston, only to find 52 inches of rain had fallen in 24 hours in some places. He knows 20 people who lost their homes in Houston. It's not good over there.

You won't hear me say this often.... I agree with you.
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

A) Trump is known for his disregard of global warming/climate change. Warmer climate = warmer sea surface = stronger hurricanes...Let's not also forget his recent pulling of the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement. Hardly the way to mitigate future events like these.
B) From what we see here via t.v., it looks absolutely devastating in that part of the world. Hope you and yours all come through this in one piece.

a) He knows it exists, he just isnt punishing the people of his country by making energy/fuel expensive when there are countries like China and India that show no regard for global warming/climate change. How can the US compete when they have these self imposed shackles?

That's easy sorted, Increase import tax from those countries and use that money to fund your own climate control costs.
