Incident on Foreshore at Teatime
A collection of vehicles, flashing amber lights and people could be seen way down by waters edge, less than half a mile South of the pier. Several police, ambulance and fire appliances present at beach entrance adjacent Pleasureland. More emergency vehicles inc two further fire appliances parked on pavement by pier. All the hallmarks of a major incident, but no mention on news sites. Anyone by chance know what was happening there on beach today?

CALLOUT - 18/7/17 - 18:04 - Southport lifeboat and Quads paged to reports of person drowning off the end of Southport Pier.
An RNLI lifeguard had swam out to the casualty and recovered him to their rescue board. The quad crew waded out and assisted the lifeguard back to the shore where paramedics were waiting to asses the casualty.
The casualty was then transfered to an ambulance on the sea wall with assistance from HM Coastguard Southport.
Well done to all involved.

Yes, well done to all rescue services. Lifeguards ignore those taking a rise and saying that the Lifeguard actually got wet! We were down on the beach last week, when there were some people paddling around in the sea as the tide was coming in. They were oblivious to the fact that they were on a sandbank and the water was filling up fast behind them. We went over to warn them, and their response in a Southern accent was "We are not kids!" They appeared to know more than the locals.

Ta mate. Was hard to tell when passing scene if it was an exercise/rescue drill, or person/s being rescued.

Update on Beach incident: A Libyan man went for a walk on the beach, got tired and fell asleep on a sand bank about a mile out from the shore. Woke up to find himself surrounded by water! The only person I heard of that could hold back the tide, died about two thousand years ago.
