I have noticed the lady on Shaws road walks out into the traffic when the pedestrians are 30ft away from her. She has done this three times now leaving me sat in traffic on Liverpool road while waiting for the pedestrians to cross and holding up the Traffic behind me on Liverpool road. It's a dodgy junction which is why she is there in the first place but by keeping drivers waiting unnecessarily on Liverpool Road she is increasing the danger to those drivers and holding up the traffic.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

How can being stationary on L'pool Rd 'increase the danger'?
At end of day, a delay of a few extra seconds is no worse than waiting for traffic lights to change.

The lollipop men around where I live do an excellent job. They wait for a gap in the traffic. They chat to parents and kids and brighten their day. There may be some in other places who are not perfect, but we are all human.

At the junction with Shaws road, waiting to turn right next to the dotted line in the centre of the road means there is space for vehicles to pass me on my left. Sometimes other drivers show caution, other times they come through the gap at high speed. If I found myself waiting for the pedestrian crossing other vehicles would line up behind me and I would feel safe. Really not difficult to see and be aware of the dangers? No need when the pedestrians haven't even made it as far as the crossing person.

The number of times I've seen the lollipop man stop the traffic when there has only been ONE car approaching instead of letting that car pass.
I've even seen one lollipop man stop a man on his bike instead of letting him pass and then walking out into the then empty road.
Are the told what to do or are they just given a big lollipop and told to be on there way.
Bike's don't stop for red lights unlikely to stop for a lollipop man ,or woman .

Bikes
A lot of bikes do stop although when I'm at work I've got one woman who will insist on either running a red light on hers or getting off and walking through the flow of traffic.
It's mostly the high school ones who won't stop and go off in all directions on theirs. Can't see the point of having a bike and not being on the road.
I hate pavement cyclists especially those with all the gear on, helmet and padding etc.

Because they can't follow a simple set of rules set out by traffic lights and choose to be plonkers and carry on regardless.

Personally I never run a red light, that's simply asking for trouble...However, I might be tempted to set off early once the cross-traffic has come to a halt - particularly if a left-indicating HGV has pulled up alongside!
On subject of lollipops/school zones. I witnessed a car flash through the illuminated 20mph school warning light on New St in Halsall this week, without slowing. Only to have to brake hard, when the crossing patrol stepped out ahead with a bunch of youngsters.

Lol - I was waiting to emerge from a side-road when it went past junction so fast I didn't have time to see the badge, but looked like an executive saloon of some sort.

Liverpool Road is bad at most times of the day. Right from Station Road through to Birkdale Village. The road has many parked vehicles, it narrows where curves in the road occur, it has traffic turning from several supermarkets, there is loading at all times of the day along the road, the road provides access and exits for five schools - there are times when it becomes a complete nightmare, especially when those little angels from Birkdale High claim the whole road on their bikes doing wheelies and multiple carries while ignoring the traffic signals. The lollipop people have to really keep on their toes to get any children across that road.

I saw a cracker this morning, actually I saw several dangerous manoeuvres! At the junction of Liverpool rd and Shaws rd the traffic had stopped for the pedestrian crossing. Traffic was backed up over the Shaws road junction down Shaftesbury Road and out into Liverpool road. A Car driver leaving the junction had driven into a space on Liverpool road heading into Town so their car was stuck across the lane and stuck out into Liverpool rd road across the Ainsdale bound lane. As if that wasn't enough of a hazard a Van pulled out of Shaftesbury road through a gap behind that car and up onto the pavement in front of the shops before driving along the footpath over the pedestrian crossing and back onto the road in front of the standing traffic. That was probably the worst incident I saw today but there were loads of others.
That is with Laws, imagine what it would be like without Laws?
