MiseryRail
A big event in town and what do they do - Cancel 1/3 of the trains!
When the Flower Show is on they put on extra carriages so all the trains are 6 carriages, not for the Golf - cancel 1/3 and on Sunday due to the strike action they only stop at Blundellsands which doesn't have a Bus Service and has limited parking but ignore Waterloo and Bootle New Strand which has plenty of both.
You couldn't make it up!

There are trains every 10 minutes on Thursday, Friday & Saturday as opposed to every 15 minutes. How do you conclude that 1 in 3 have been cancelled if there are more trains running?
Granted some of those are not stopping at every station meaning a reduced service for some commuters but for anyone going to the golf it's an increase in services.
Trains will run to the golf on Sunday every 15 minutes despite the strike as opposed to the normal every 30 minute Sunday service.
And where's the parking at Waterloo station?

The trains are calling at less than half of the stations.
Normal Sunday service is every 15 mins.
There are two Pay & Display car parks by Waterloo Station, one on Hougomont Ave and one at Crosby Library.

On Thurs/Fri/Sat there are 6 trains an hour instead of the usual 4. 3 of them will call at all stations whilst 3 won't.
On Sunday despite the strike trains will run to Hillside every 15 minutes. Sunday 23rd is the first day of the summer timetable where Sunday services increase from every 30mins to every 15mins.
How does this equate to 1 in 3 trains being cancelled as per your statement?

3 services per hour stop at all stations, 3 services per hour stop at selected stations that's 75 station stops per hour, normal service 4 services per hour stop at all stations that's 68 station stops per hour.
Sunday is a strike by the RMT, not Merseyrail.

So that's 1 in 4 cancelled to those stations. Your opening post was about travel to The Open not to the rest of the world.
I've just got the train home from work and because of the reduced number of stopping trains my routine had to be adjusted by 4 minutes. That's hardly an inconvenience, and it was a 6 carriage train rather than the usual 3.
