Mobile Phones - Driving

Pleased to see so many cars stopping so drivers can use mobile phones, pity most of them I've seen don't realise that you have to turn your engine off, otherwise it's still an offence.

I still see drivers using them whilst driving , it should be a 6 month ban No questions . That would stop it , then if the same driver is caught again after the six months ban them for 12 months .
But the easy answer is for drivers to switch off thier phones before starting the engine .

Potentially more dangerous are the lap-glancers.
These individuals are particularly stupid as they believe their addiction to the shiny glowing speaky wordy thing with nice pictures overrides any road safety considerations.
In which case they place the device on their laps whilst merrily carrying on texting, surfing and cyber-socialising.
At least the idiot with it clamped to the side of their head is still looking vaguely in the direction of travel.

People using mobile phones are are a damn nuisance, I can't remember how many of these numpties you see every day, even Mum's on the school run with kids in car, risking their safety and potentially their lives!! Gets me really mad, and if it was left to me I would bring in a ruling/law that if driver used mobile for whatever pathetic reason (I bet the cops get plenty of them) while driving/or stationery, I would (1) confiscate and destroy their phone (2) Remove immediately the car, take it away and crush the bloody thing. Hit 'em were it would actually hurt, and if the car wa son Finance/Bank Loan etc tough S**T you would have to keep paying for it. How many people agree with me on that. This is the ONLY was to stop them , never mind all the do-gooders. ARGGHHHH

At least when a texting or phoning motorist hits someone, the culprit has no way of denying/wriggling out of it. As undisputable evidence is available to the prosecution from phone company record of calls made.

A far easier and cost effective way of keeping a driving license....
A)...Before starting the engine,the driver puts their mobile phone on its bluetooth setting,linking it to their mobile phone.
B)...And then LOCKS the mobile away IN the glovebox,as you would need to switch the engine off to open the glovebox if the phone rang.
C)...Uses a hands-free headset to answer the phone if it rings...as the driver is'nt physically holding the phone as it's locked inside the glovebox.....

A decent bluetooth earpiece would cost anywhere between £10-£20 depending on make or quality.

Another option is to have a handsfree kit fitted into the vehicle,as most modern cars DO have this installed,costs do vary,but would be LESS than a £200 fine to have it fitted.

Saves the driver having 6 points on their license,and an additional £200 fine.....

And also a possible chance of them NOT being distracted while looking at the mobile phone while driving,and in doing so a lesser chance of the driver causing an accident.........Simples.

Seen a few suggestions/remedies as to mobile use, please tell me what the hell is wrong about either switching off or simply ignore the damn thing if driving, for those who do need to be in permanent contact hands free is essential, although to be fair I would see those outlawed while driving.

There are a very limited number of people who need to be contacted immediately, most calls can be replied to later, let's be honest how many of us have ever had a call which was of immediate concern or importance? I would reckon very few, certainly any calls which I have had the misfortune to be in earshot of, have been mundane at best, nothing wrong, but nothing important either.
