It's easy to blame 'armchair shopping' via internet for the decline in town centres....But imo it's got more to do with the rise of big edge-of-town supermarkets. Originally only selling foodstuffs, now you can get anything from a t.v., to clothes, to phones, even a bank account or a mortgage from them!

Agree mate , but the rents in town are astronomical, and the parking charges down help .

not been North of Woodvale for months , is it that bad ?

main reason I dont bother is the poor roads , expensive parking , and the risk of a ticket for daring to be minutes late ... we can be on the main roads , motorway and off somewhere else in the same time it takes to get to Southport and parked . £8 to park in the railway car park , thats petrol money to go else where !

The tacky overpriced events that are put on ..... worth the trip not !
always reverse to see what you have run over ...

Don't give the local retailer's a nudge or we will be seeing Xmas stuff on sale months before the season again! That is so annoying! Anyway - it is poor marketing! If people believe that items are likely to sell out or are becoming scarce - they will panic buy and the shop benefits. If a shop displays items early, it leads a shopper to believe that there is a massive surplus and they don't buy as much.

As for the cheap temporary Christmas stores, they may as well be selling last year's newspapers for all the attention that I pay to them!
