Old Southport landmarks.
Google is not helping much! So can any one tell me the precise locations of the old Scala Cinema and the Kingsway Casino/Nightclub buildings?
Just be yourself, no one else is better qualified!!

Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

The Kingsway was built at the South end of the Promenade just across from the Morrisons Car Park.

The Scala was part of the Winter Gardens complex, and, as you say, known originally as the Pavillion. It was opened in 1874. Unfortunately the Winter Gardens didn't enjoy financial success. As part of an effort to turn things around the Pavillion was turned into a cinema. Like Nick, I went there many times before it was demolished in the early 60s. It was definitely where B&M's parking lot is now.
1927 map below. Notice that the road "Kingsway" wasn't even built then.

Ah, yes, thanks for that! I can see it now on the map. But you are obviously too young to remember that personally.

Obviously some kind of scammer or BOT, Qlocal should use a Re-Captcha when we post individual comments, it would stop the above.
