Old maps of Southport, and Blowick areas in 1894 and in 1947
Thought I would share these with some old historians, people who like looking at maps, showing how an area can change over the years, with development and population growth.enjoy, hope you like them.
Please note ; You will obviously have to open them with a zip file,as they were too large to put on here unfortunately.

There were possibly 3 slaughterhouses in the Southport area, definitely one in Tulketh Street, one at the rear of Hart St,shown on the 1894 map, which I vaguely remember that closing down sometime in the late 1970's,before Dodsworth Road houses were built, and I think there was also another in High Park Road, somewhere between numbers 124-128 ?

Cheers for them.
I think there are one or two taxi drivers who still use those maps to get around town.

I grew up in Blowick area late forties early fifties. I remember the slauterhouse well. Went there a couple of time, caecasses haning up, workers wearing very long leather aprons.
Please be aware that due to visual impairment I will occasionally post typos in error.

My father used to work nights at the Bus Depot in Blowick and one morning as he was on his way home he saw some cattle, that had escaped from the slaughter house, running down the street.
