That would be where the glass place was for ages. I've not been past there for a fair old while. It did strike me as being previously something different when I used to go past on the way to work in the 80's. I can imagine the underground tanks for the petrol being there. The tanks are still at the old Fina place down Upper Aughton Rd which also had Gosling and Morton Car dealership attached to it.

Showing my age but there was an automatic pay to use pump just before Kew roundabout, probably where the left entrance to Tesco is now. A one pound note got three gallons in old money!!!

There were actually two, located almost directly opposite each other...The one on the other side was pretty much where the drive-thru carwash now is, i.e. just past the end of Foul Lane.

Also just discovered
I just discovered a Shell petrol station at Birkdale Station, was part of John Goulder's garage next door to the park pub.
It appears in this video clip

The 'OLD Tescos' down Southport Rd, which before it was Tescos used to be a garage that had some old WWII tow trucks and they had a couple of DUKWs which I think they did up and flogged to the Council, I can't remember their name but it used to fascinate me when I was a nipper.

Never knew there was ever a Birkdale Town Hall, shame they knocked it down and built those horrible looking shops there.

There was a Library & Police Station as part of the complex. Birkdale was a County Borough before Southport, in fact Birkdale absorbed Southport not the other way round.

Then on we sail,
Never thinking that the wind could ever fail,
No one gets to heaven till they"ve lived a while in hell,
And even then its rare
That you"ll be going there.
