If you don't get any joy give 999inks a try. I've used them for years, good quality, and a fraction of branded prices.

£15.99 for 4???
You can get fully-chipped compatibles on Ebay (made in USA in an ISO certified factory) for £9.79 for 20 cartridges - 8 black, and 4 each of the 3 colours.
Epson make more money selling cartridges at grossly inflated prices than they do from selling the printers.

Well that's good, because they make nothing on their printers. The profit comes from the consumables.
I've found compatibles less than satisfactory, They're fine for general printing use, but all the ones I've tried are useless for photo paper. Even had one that 12 months later the black could still be spread around the page, An impressive achievement in it's own right, that it hadn't dried out after all that time.

I guess it depends on where you get them.
I've been using compatibles for years and never had a problem, even on glossy photo paper. Even if I had a duff one now and again (which I haven't), the savings far outweigh the inconvenience imho.
I wouldn't do it with something like brake disc pads though!

I would be interested in 20 cartridges for that price.
What is the company you use on ebay?

There are lots of them. Just search on Ebay for compatible cartridges and the model number of your printer. This link is for the model that the OP mentioned:
