    Scottish Independence

I can fully understand why the SNP are pressing for another Scottish Independence referendum. After all, that is the whole reason for their existence and the fact that their politicians have been democratically elected - almost to the exclusion of all others - to represent most Scottish constituencies, it could be said that the Scottish people have given the SNP a mandate to call a referendum at frequent intervals until such time that they succeed in their aim to detach themselves from the UK.
Whilst I would be sorry to see the UK break up, I am a great believer in independence and self governance and do have some sympathy with that cause. However, I cannot for the life of me understand why they would want severance from the UK - only to want to remain in the claustrophobic grip of the European Union.
Independence should be all or nothing.
Whilst they are in the UK, many of their public services are heavily subsidised by the rest of the UK. If they were to leave us, yet still remain (as they would wish) in the EU, then they would have to be actually contributing to the EU budget. We wouldn't be there to bale them out.
It is probably inevitable, now that they have got the bit between their teeth, that they are going to leave the UK sooner or later. If they don't get out at the next referendum, it will be at the next, or the one after that. Although it is a shame for the union to break up, surely it can't be long before we are all sick and tired of the SNP continually whinging about how "hard done by" they are by the Westminster government. I think that many of our people, south of the border, are already fed up with the frequency that Scottish matters hog the headlines.
My suggestion would be that we should grant the SNP their call for another referendum but on condition that the whole UK should have an opportunity to vote. That way we could see them off, once and for all, and save ourselves a lot of our taxpayers money by doing so.
Let them try - (they can but try) - to follow their dream within the EU. I am sure, that certainly in financial terms, their dreams would not match up with reality.

Currently Scotland is only a member of the EU as part of the UK, the EU have already stated that for Scotland to become part of the EU would require a separate application and would need agreement from EU members.

Sturgeon is banging on as if independence from the UK would allow Scotland to stay within the EU without hindrance and everything would be hunky dory, who does she think is going to subsidise her independent Scotland? or does she think that exiting the UK will give her some sort of deal which guarantees continued support from Westminster?

For once must agree with duncet, the whole Scottish independence pantomime is becoming boring, would prefer Scotland to remain part of the UK, but how or why should a country with a population equal to Yorkshire dictate to the rest of UK as to total UK policy?

If the Scottish people want rid of the UK, go and the best of luck, they will need it.

Holland have elections tomorrow, France next month and Italy bringing their own elections forward a year, with big players pushing for a Brexit type referendum in each country, with the results of our own referendum, and Trump getting in office in America, if results in these countries go along the same lines, there may not be a European Union for them to join.

I too, for once, agree with Duncet - although I think nationalism is unpleasant regardless of whether it is "left" as in SNP or "right" as in UKIP.

The subsidy junkies of Scotland will find the EU considerably less generous than Westminster.

They wont have any Euros left to rebuild the wall after they start paying for their prescriptions and education.
I reckon they are not daft enough to follow Sturgeon on her personal quest for independence and if they are then we should..... let them have it!.
We should have a vote to see if we want them or not, then they would be in trouble as nobody wants a moaner who always cries and wants to leave the party.

    I couldn’t agree more.

Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

How many more millions must be spent massaging this ridiculous woman's ego.
One of the most ironic moments of the last General Election came during one of the televised 'debates' when the leaders of the SNP and Plaid Cymru were berating Farage for his xenophobia. The main reason for those two party's existence is founded in xenophobia towards the English.

That being said if the Scots want to bugger off and found the People's Republic of Jockistan then - aye - away ye go!

This sums it up for me.

Opportunism is the conscious policy and practice of taking advantage of circumstances – with little regard for principles, or with what the consequences are for others. Opportunist actions are expedient actions guided primarily by self-interested motives. The term can be applied to individual humans and living organisms, groups, organizations, styles, behaviours, and trends

If all remainers emigrate to Scotland, then the population will be as big if not bigger than England, Scotland will then invade England make it part of the Scottish Empire, well hell it's no dafter than what is actually going on at the moment.

Personally I'd rather be in Scotland within the E.U. than England outside the E.U.
Also think they have an absolute right to ask for another referendum, The circumstances have completely changed since the last one. With the fact it was going to be hard for Scotland to get back within the E.U. if the separated from the rest of the U.K. being a big factor of them staying.
Now the E.U. would welcome them with open arms just to stick a figure up at England.
I still can't get my head around the fact we are leaving
