They are creating 90 degree corners and space for only one vehicle each way through the junction. This means traffic turning left or right will delay traffc travelling straight on.

This will cuase delays along Manchester Road.

Do the 'planners' actually look at the problem (in situ) before they make these decisions?

I wonder if they may be going to change to staggered lights? That would do away with that issue.

Nothing wrong with the light at the YMCA, patience is a virtue. It's only a balls up if people are crashing or hitting pedestrians. Other wise it's a VERY minor inconvenience as you wait an extra 30 seconds. Which is what the drivers at the shell garage should be doing.
BTW the X5 gained a full 6 car places. I'm sure that saved him vital time on his journey.

There was also nothing wrong with the lights before they changed them.

You say 30 seconds isn't that long to wait, but when you multiply that by the number of people who use those lights per day/week/year then it is.

There is no justification for the council to butcher the junctions on Manchester Road. The KSI figures for this area are ZERO!

Maybe, but the usage in the area has change significantly, and may do more so in the future. TBH I'm not bothered either way, Just playing devils advocate.
Do you wait for the KSI figures to go up, or are you pro active so they don't? I guess it all depends if you are affected by the KSI figures if they do rise.

Ive seen cars doing this aswel. The reason why is because the sensors in the road surface that detect when a car pulls up to the lights are not working due to the road works so the lights are taking alot longer than normal to change to green, hence why impatient drivers are cutting through. Im sure once the work is done and the lights are working properly again drivers will stop going through the garage forecourt.

Not quite as likely to kill someone or smash into a pump though are they.

Same, i go through them numerous times every day. Since the road works have started, when i go through late at night im sat waiting for a green light for ages even though there is no other traffic coming through the other way. Normally they would change just as i approach them. If you look at the road leading up to the lights you will see faint black lines on the surface, sensors which activate when you drive over them. If they didnt have them you would be waiting forever at each set of lights. I thought every driver knew this haha

I know about the sensors, Just hadn't notice any additional delay, Probably as I'm going through at the busy times so there is always a few cars anyway.
I'm sure it will be a temporary issue until they have finished changing the junction.
