Southport needs to come out of Merseyside, most definitely. It needs to form its own council. Can't answer the above poll though as the wording is ambiguous

Who on earth set up this poll. It needs re-wording.

You are cheating! One response only is required! So the wording is ambiguous because the question requires two answers.

We should be in West Lancashire.
We have nothing in common with Liverpool and Merseyside

Your last MP was from Liverpool, voted in by the people of Southport.
Oh and Liverpool was Lancashire at one time. So you see, you do have lots in common. Whether you like it or not.

The only thing that Southport has in common with Liverpool is by a classification of land area by ownership. The large majority of Liverpool people can trace their ancestry to Irish origins who came to the area of Liverpool and remained secular to Liverpool - they established their own dialect and their own traditional way of life. Liverpool has remained secular to all the neighbouring counties, not just Southport. Southport has more in common with Wigan and Manchester than Liverpool. Birkenhead, the Wirral etc., have more in common with Cheshire than Liverpool. So apart from a geographical label - Southport has nothing in common with Liverpool!

True! Southport is not situated on the side of the Mersey either, Southport is at the Estuary of the Mersey!

I expect that Southport will eventually become a part of Greater Liverpool, and I doubt that it will ever join West Lancs.
Please be aware that due to visual impairment I will occasionally post typos in error.
