The Station Masters House - Birkdale
The volunteer led project to open a library/community centre within the Station Masters House alongside Birkdale Railway Station (corner adjacent to Junes Florist) is steadily moving forward. We have had a local architect draw up plans for how the house can be made fit for purpose and the plans are available to be seen by the public any day this week (up until Sunday 23rd) at the site of the new library. Pop along between 11am and 4pm on any of these days and talk to the volunteers present about the progress being made and how you can best be involved in helping to take this project forward.
This is a really exciting development for the whole community and we need as much positive input from local people to ensure success.

The last stationmaster I recall living there was a man called Cave his son went to Christ Church school for a while in the 60's. My Dad was a signalman at Birkdale in the early 60's after his previous box Crescent Rd was closed and the Automatic Barriers installed.

What was the building used for that is directly opposite the Birkdale signal box on the other side of the line? I think it has been used until recently as an antique shop.
