I think they'll certainly progress. Although they are, to many people, something of an unknown quantity. Having said that, they will have the talent on the field that's capable of going further than some of the doom merchants are predicting. Fingers crossed!

I personally think if they reach the quarter finals they will have done very well .
And yes there is some young unknown quantity in the squad but hopefully they will learn about tournament football which is a little different to league football.
And I agree there are some doom merchants around and some probably havent played at a decent level in thier sad little lives .

Thought England played ok last night against Costa Rica, good preparation for what is to come , i.e. Shape when attacking , shape when defending . Not too sure about Jones at CB , but it was the "second team " the Southgate chose for the kickoff , he seems to have a togetherness in the squad which for me hasn't always been there . Rashford proved that when he's given a licence to play he can play , special talent. Waste under Maureen.
But the real stuff starts next week . C.O.E.

Young squad, no one really expecting them to go all the way, Southgate doesn’t seem to be frightened to do his own thing, so who knows how far they can go.
They should get out of their group, and I feel anything less than a quarter final appearance should be looked on as failure.
The knock out stages can become a bit of a lottery with injuries, suspensions etc and teams playing above and below expectations, so fingers crossed for a good tournament

Yes good points Steed, think your goalie should the number 1. Can't decide between Dier of Henderson I m just nudging towards Dier . CBS for me have to be Jones and Cahill. Unless it's a back three , then it's Cahill

I saw most of last nights game and the Nigeria game and thought they knocked the ball about well.
One or two players are prone to going on exciting runs but tend to give the ball away too easily, Sterling and Ali spring to mind, if they could find a final ball we would create a lot more chances.
At the moment I don’t think there is much to choose between Pickford and Butland, but having watched Pickford more, his distribution, short and long is excellent and Southgate seems to like to play from the back.
I think I read that if Pickford starts he will be the youngest England keeper to start a World Cup tournament, he’s just turned 23, young for an international keeper.
I was surprised when Kane was handed the captains arm band, I was expecting Henderson to get it, unless Southgate doesn’t see him starting ?

Here we go again, some people have short memories, we are crap and certainly not as good as we think we are. It will be the same old, same old, when a player like Jordan Henderson was being considered as national team captain it just shows how ordinary the squad is. Couldn't win it a few years ago when we had world class players such as Scholes, Gerrard, Beckham, Shearer, Terry etc so we have no chance with this lot which is the worst squad of players I can remember, only player who can consider himself on that level is Kane. Fancy Tunisia to win the first match so after that it will be the usual struggle. If I had any advice for Gareth Southgate it would be to ask the pilot to keep the engine running, we won't be long!

I seiously hope that you get to eat your words my friend.
Nothing wrong with what Southgate is doing in my eyes, and he has my admiration for being brave enough to do this.

No one has said we're going to win it , nor that we are world beaters. People are putting points of view forward, if you don't like that don't read the thread .

To be honest there are now many other tv channels, and also companies like Netflix available, that no one really has to watch the World Cup through lack of alternatives.
Hope you find something that you like 😀

Absolutely Dixie. I think Theatrics is living up to his username, and just likes the sound of his own keyboard. This England squad has the potential to be a lot better than many people think.
