I despair for the generation of teenagers coming up. I despair for my grandkids growing up in a society like this.
I don't know what makes people so fundamentally devoid of empathy or respect for another human being.
I'm not going into a 'back in my day...' rant, because bad things happened in the 70s and 80s when I was a teenager, of course. But acid attacks were usually only heard of from some moron from a backward religion somehow believing they were punishing some poor woman in defence of their family's honour. Not any less horrific, but not a weapon used daily, either.
I can only hope they adjust the law so that the punishment fits the crime. A person's entire life ruined, so a life sentence should be passed down. It won't, of course, but it should.

There is a theory the choice of weapon is purely ingenuity.
Police have been so successful in 'stop and search' in the carrying of banned weapons in street crime opting for corrosive substances not legislated against are increasing.
The victims can broadly be divided into two categories.
Crimes of passion-mostly female victims known to the attacker.
Robbery-Mostly male unknown to the attacker.

Well said!
Despicable acts like this deserve
a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years imprisonment.

Your losing a sense of proportion, how can a wounding offence carry a sentance well in excess of murder, this would lead to attackers making sure that they killed somebody to ensure a lighter sentence.

Legalise handguns again.
People arent going to stop hurting eachother, so why inconvenience everyone else by trying to stop it?
Not only would it help stop global warming, but it would also save the NHS money and also reduce certain types of crime.

Oh dear!
The response must be to nip this vicious behaviour in the bud with punitive prison sentences. There is NO defence for such heinous acts.
Don't go to bed angry. Stay up and plot your revenge.

Acid attacks have been going on for some years in India. One does not have to buy the acid, it is available all the time, practically everyone has a source of it. The UK law should be far tougher than it is now - forget political correctness and being nice - that does not work.
It is a very cruel crime and the perpetrators deserve tough prison sentences, no matter what age they are - a few years in Walton would be good!
