Voting for a Mayor of Liverpool
Us people here in Southport shouldn't be voting for a Liverpool Mayor and yet I got a letter yesterday with a little booklet about it. Can anyone explain this idea...as I have always voted for Southport stuff and in General Elections and the like.
Never encountered this before.

And if I am not mistaken, not one candidate even mentions Southport in the booklet.

I cannot check that as it went into the bin.

It's not the Liverpool mayor. It's a regional mayor and Sefton is part of the Liverpool region.

The whole idea is a total waste of money.
Southport should never have been moved into Sefton; we now just exist to fund Liverpool.

It was done by Ted Heaths Government to enable the Tories to have control of Merseyside County Council, if it hadn't have happened Southport would have been an insignificant backwater such as Morecambe ruled from County Hall with no services and little voice.
